# Czechia ## Overview Czechia (Czech: *Česká republika*), commonly referred to as the Czech Republic, is a sovereign state situated in the heart of Europe. It shares borders with Germany to the west, Austria to the south, Slovakia to the east, and Poland to the north. The country covers an area of approximately 78,866 km² and has a population of around 10.5 million inhabitants. Prague, the capital and largest city, is renowned for its architectural splendor, featuring a blend of Gothic, Baroque, and Art Nouveau styles. ## History ### Early and Medieval Periods The lands of today's Czechia have been inhabited since the Paleolithic era.
