## Overview
Czechia (Czech: *Česká republika*), commonly referred to as the Czech Republic, is a sovereign state situated in the heart of Europe. It shares borders with Germany to the west, Austria to the south, Slovakia to the east, and Poland to the north. The country covers an area of approximately 78,866 km² and has a population of around 10.5 million inhabitants. The early 15th century saw the rise of the **Hussite movement**, a proto‑Protestant reform led by Jan Hus. Following Hus's execution in 1415, the Hussite Wars (1419–1434) erupted, marking one of the first major religious conflicts in Europe. Despite eventual defeat, the Hussites left a lasting legacy of religious tolerance and national consciousness.
